Need Hearing Aids Through the NDIS? How Expression Audiology Can Help
If you are an NDIS participant and need hearing aids or other hearing technology, having the right clinical evidence can make the application process much clearer.
Expression Audiology has a long track record of supporting successful NDIS hearing technology applications in a timely manner, through appropriate clinical testing, comprehensive technology trials and a strong understanding of NDIS funding requirements.
Our experienced audiologists know that a strong NDIS audiology report needs to do more than provide an audiogram and recommend a hearing aid. It needs to clearly demonstrate your hearing needs, the impact on your everyday life and the evidence supporting the technology being recommended.
It starts with understanding your hearing needs
At Expression Audiology, we look beyond the hearing test.
We take the time to understand how your hearing affects your communication, independence and participation in everyday life. This might include difficulties communicating with family, participating in work or education, hearing in groups or background noise, using the telephone, or participating confidently in your community.
This allows us to connect your hearing loss with your individual communication needs and NDIS goals.
Trialling NDIS hearing aid technology
A critical part of our approach is trialling at least two levels of hearing aid technology, where appropriate, rather than simply recommending a device.
We combine these trials with appropriate speech-in-noise testing to assess how different technology performs in challenging listening environments.
This is important because an audiogram alone doesn’t tell us how someone will perform in a busy workplace, restaurant, family gathering or other noisy environment.
By comparing technology levels and completing speech-in-noise testing, we can gather objective evidence about whether a particular level of hearing technology provides a meaningful benefit.
A detailed NDIS audiology report
Once your assessment and technology trials are complete, your audiologist prepares a detailed report explaining the evidence behind the recommendation.
Depending on your circumstances, this may include:
- your hearing assessment and communication needs
- the impact of hearing loss on everyday activities and participation
- your NDIS goals
- the hearing technology levels trialled
- speech-in-noise testing and other relevant results
- your experience with the different technologies
- the hearing aids or technology recommended
- clear clinical reasoning supporting the recommendation.
Our aim is to create a report that clearly connects:
Your hearing loss → its impact on your life → the technology tested → the evidence → our recommendation.
Experience with NDIS hearing technology applications
Expression Audiology has extensive experience working with NDIS participants and understands the evidence required to support requests for hearing aids and other hearing technology.
Our knowledge of NDIS funding requirements, combined with appropriate testing and detailed reporting, has helped many of our clients have their hearing technology applications approved in a timely manner.
While funding decisions ultimately sit with the NDIS and approval cannot be guaranteed, our role is to ensure your application is supported by clear, relevant and appropriate clinical evidence.
